Poker News Daily Writers Launch DurrrrChallenge.com
San Jose, Costa Rica (PRWEB) March 5, 2009 -- The man commonly known as "durrrr" in the online poker world has issued the high-stakes Tom Dwan Million Dollar Challenge. (http://www.durrrrchallenge.com/) The concept is simple: Play 50,000 hands of $200/$400 Pot Limit Omaha or No Limit Hold'em. If Dwan is up by just $1 after 50,000 hands, his opponent is forced to fork over $500,000. If Dwan's opponent is up by $1, durrrr owes him $1.5 million. In either case, the winner also keeps the spoils from their play. The writers at PokerNewsDaily.com have been covering the event daily for sister site DurrrrChallenge.com.
Three of the world's top poker minds have stepped up to the plate to take on Dwan. They include Phil Ivey, a five-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) bracelet winner and flagship member of Team Full Tilt Poker. Ivey is considered by many to boast the top all-around game in the poker industry. High-stakes cash game player David Benyamine will join him. He added a WSOP bracelet to his collection of accolades in 2008 by winning the $10,000 buy-in World Championship of Omaha High-Low Split Eight or Better.
Competing first against Dwan and making poker news headlines (http://www.pokernewsdaily.com/) in the process is Patrik Antonius. As of Monday, Dwan leads by $140,000 in what has been a see-saw battle. The two have squared off for a total of five days of play. On Day 1, Dwan jumped out to an early $134,000 lead over Antonius. At the end of Day 2, Dwan had established an even larger cushion, padding his lead to $170,000, the largest margin for either player to date. On Day 3, Antonius amassed over $220,000 in winnings from Dwan and found himself up by $56,000. However, his earnings were erased on Day 4, when Dwan soared to $150,000 ahead. Antonius recouped about $10,000 on Day 5, which occurred last Sunday.
The Durrrr Challenge (http://www.durrrrchallenge.com/) received added interest as a result of Dwan's appearance on the premiere of Season 5 of "High Stakes Poker," which aired on GSN on March 1st. Dwan was the most active player at the $200,000 buy-in cash game table, participating in the majority of the pots shown. He's the torch bearer for the young guns of poker.
A Prediction Contest on DurrrrChallenge.com allows the site's readers to guess who will win the competition and by how much (assuming at least 30,000 hands are played). The top 10 closest respondents will finish in the money, with the winner taking home $1,000. Members of ThisIsTheNuts.com who have $100 combined lifetime rake will see their prizes doubled. That means the winner could walk away with $2,000. Read the latest poker news (http://www.pokernewsdaily.com/) at DurrrrChallenge.com and PokerNewsDaily.com.
